WASNJ|The First Dove Scholars Announced! A Multi-dimensional Enrichment Programme to Nurture Excellence
Do you still remember the street interview a few weeks ago, when students eagerly told us who they thought deserved to be named a Dove Scholar?
Now, after more than a month of applications, rigorous evaluations and in-depth interviews, 19 outstanding WAS Nanjing students have been selected from many applicants – marking the official launch of the very first cohort of Dove Scholars!
At the beginning of this academic year, WAS Nanjing carried out baseline testing for all students and we were delighted to discover a group of children demonstrating exceptional academic potential. This inspired the idea of the Dove Scholarship.
Notably, the selection of Dove Scholars was not a “quota competition”, but a self-challenge based on transparent criteria. The assessment system was built upon four key dimensions — CAT4 standardised test results, academic performance, an application form and a 20-minute interview — with a total score of 20 points. Any student scoring 16 or above was eligible to become a Dove Scholar, with no cap on the number of recipients. In other words, their competition was not against peers, but against an academic standard— a design rooted in our belief that big aspirations inspire growth.
Named in honour of Dame Jane Frances Dove, the founder of Wycombe Abbey in 1896, this academic award embodies the educational mission of pursuing excellence while staying true to one’s original aspiration. It is not only a high recognition of students’ academic achievements and all-round qualities, but also the starting point of a more challenging intellectual journey.
