Our Teachers Play Many Roles
At Wycombe Abbey School Nanjing, our staff wear many hats.
They are all exceptional subject teachers, and in many instances, they are passionate advocates of hobbies they share with our children. These multiple roles include taking children to watch the stars in the astronomy club, being passionate conductors in the symphony orchestra, being strong and inspiring expedition leaders in the Icelandic wilderness, as coaches sweating with the children on the football field, while also being a mentor and friend supporting them in the boarding houses.
Our international teachers at Wycombe Abbey School Nanjing have many years of experience in boarding schools, guiding our students with excellent knowledge and understanding.
Living and working in the same community
Wycombe Abbey School Nanjing focuses on each student’s development. We combine the advantages of the headteacher system in Chinese schools and the house and tutor system of overseas schools, providing students with a comprehensive, multidimensional, and personalised pastoral care system.
In Wycombe Abbey School Nanjing, each house has a housemaster or housemistress and several tutors who will live with the students and be in charge of classroom teaching and extracurricular activities. They pay close attention to students’ academic study and social skills progress.
Each student is part of a house and a tutor group, and each tutor takes charge of 5 to 6 students. Working closely with subject teachers, sports coaches and housemasters, tutors focus on the all-round development of students.
Our tutors spend most of the day with their students, providing individual attention and care. They focus on each child’s academic study, hobbies, physical and social activities, and other life challenges. By exploring each student’s personal characteristics and talents, they help develop their potential to the fullest, ensuring every student feels valued and cared for.
A Home Away from Home
The house is the children’s home at school.
The house system offers children a platform for teamwork, interaction, and competition, fostering their leadership skills, team spirit, and sense of competition.
Each house and tutor team comprises students from different year groups, creating a sense of ‘big families’ and ‘small families’ in WASNJ. Older students lead by example and take real responsibility as leaders, offering younger students advice and support. This fosters a strong sense of community, making every student feel like they are part of something bigger.
